Alberta registry fees (2026)

Frequently asked questions

Why do registries charge different prices?

Every price has two parts: a government fee, the same everywhere, and a service charge that the registry keeps. For capped products the province sets a maximum service charge; registries can charge less but not more. Uncapped products, like Class 5 road tests and many searches, are priced by each registry.

What is the cheapest way to renew a vehicle registration?

Eligible passenger vehicles can be renewed online from $102, service charge included. At a registry the most you pay for a 1-year passenger registration is $102.00 ($87.00 government fee plus up to $15.00).

Do seniors get a discount at registries?

The official catalogue marks which products are eligible for a seniors' discount, including licences, ID cards, passenger vehicle registration and tests. Ask the registry how it applies.

How often are registry fees updated?

The Government of Alberta publishes an updated Registry Agent Product Catalogue several times a year. This page uses the edition dated October 1, 2026.
